I just HAVE to share this with you all. About a week and a half ago, Zachy brought home his FIRST EVER collage from the summer program that he takes part in (through the School Based Autism Program).
When his interventionist, Ms. Sue, brought him home, she handed me the following paper, along with telling me that he had created his first collage. I was SO excited to see what he created and this is what I saw:
Yes, my friends, my Zachy-boy created his first collage out of dead flies. The flies were actually encased in globs of dried Elmer's school glue. I couldn't help but laugh at the artistic turn my boy has taken.
What can I say? He's a 7 1/2 year old boy with a love for bugs.....any kind of bug. You name it and he'll want to touch it, hold it, put it in his bug jar and keep it overnight (he lets them go the next morning). That boy has certainly found his niche in bugs. I have a feeling he will someday be a genious entemologist.
There was no way that we could keep the "Dead Fly Collage" (though I think it deserves a more tragic and artistic name.....something like "Eternity in Glue" or "Eternity is not spent in hell, but in Elmer's"), as it had started to get kinda stinky. I took a picture of it, for sentimental reasons, and then threw it away. I really would have loved to keep it, but I don't think it would have aged well. ;) The picture will have to do.
Now..........I wonder what kind of response this collage would get in the art world. Hmmmmmmm.....maybe I shouldn't have thrown it away after all.
PS> No flies were harmed in the making of this collage.......it was done BEFORE Zachy got his hands on the flies. There were dead in a windowsill. ;)
