Peeps Bunny Wreath for Easter

We've never really decorated for Easter. My family did when I was a wee one, but with my own kids, we're just now starting to celebrate some of the holidays that my family and my hubby's family stopped celebrating a long time ago. My daughter, Girly (11 years old), loves to decorate and loves art. My mom sent up a magazine (the new Celebrate by Phyllis Hoffman) for her this past weekend that has all kinds of decorating ideas for spring. The Peep bunny wreath is what caught my mom's eye and she thought Girly would like making it. Girly and I made one today and we tweaked the original version from the magazine. It's such a fun and easy project to make and there might even be extra bunny peeps to snack on. 

What you'll need:

• 12 inch embroidery hoop or wreath (I got my embroidery hoop for $1.49)
• spool of wide ribbon ($1 from the dollar bin at the big box craft store)
• two 12-packs of bunny peeps (mix and match colors or create all in one color if you like) - $3.18 total
• hot glue gun and glue sticks (I used 3 glue sticks at 7 cents each = 21 cents)

My wreath cost me a total of $5.88 to make! Best deal in town!

Step 1:

Wrap wide ribbon around an embroidery hoop (or styrofoam/chipboard/wood wreath). Use a little bit of hot glue here and there to hold the ribbon down.  

 

Step 2:

Use a little bit of hot glue to adhere the end of the ribbon.

Step 3:

Use a hot glue gun to adhere the Peeps Bunnies to the embroidery hoop/wreath.

Step 4:

If you're using an embroidery hoop, add a bit of hot glue where the bunnies meet the hoop to make them secure.

  

Step 5:

Tie a length of ribbon around the top of the hoop to breate a hanger. Tie a spearete piece of ribbon at the top of the hanger to create a bow. Anchor the ribbon on the hoop with some hot glue.

Step 6:

Because my daughter desperately wanted to try a Peep bunny, she ate the last one I had and that left a blank space on my wreath (otherwise, two 12-packs of Peep bunnies would have fit perfectly on my hoop). I used a few silk flowers and a brad to fill in the gap. (You could also alternate between bunnies and flowers if you wanted to.)

All that's left is to hang up your wreath. I'm going to purchase a wreath hanger at the hardware store that I can hang over my front door. As you can see from our garden out front, we're still waiting for the green to show up. 

If you make a peep wreath, Girly and I would love to see it! And I would love to get my hands on some other colors of peep bunnies because I really want to make a rainbow wreath to use throughout the year.

i loved doing this craft with my kids! we had a great time (and only lost a few peeps to hungry mouths in the process) ;). i do have a question though: we put ours outside and in the morning, there were a few ants on it. any suggestions for how to keep them away? i want to show it off!
