This was my daughter's first year playing basketball on the school team. I started when I was in 4th grade, too! They only lost two games, tied two games and won the rest of them! They had a great season. I was definitely the proud cheer-leader mom sitting on the sidelines shouting out encouragement and strategies. One of my goals was to never miss a game and I didn't. It made me so proud to see Girly learn so much over the season and she really enjoyed herself.
Tonight is the Basketball Banquet for all the boys and girls teams at our elementary school and Girly's team was asked to bring desserts. Of course, that's right up my alley. I love to make anything sweet and cupcakes always seem to be a favorite for the kids. I was also the "cookie mom" this season, making sure the girls had something to eat after their games. I brought a platter of cookies and a platter of fruit to every game. Even moms from the schools that we played heard about the "Cookie Mom." My reputation preceded me. *wink*
I was also asked to make a card for the coach, but I knew just the right card for her since I'd already made a basketball card with the School, Sports, Spirit! set. All the girls on the team signed the Go for the Goal card that I had made and slipped an Olive Garden gift card inside of it.
For the Go Team toppers, I stamped the megahorn & Go Team images from the Sporty Accessories set on white cardstock and colored them with Copic markers. I cut them out with an oval cutter and also punched out some Rocket Red scalloped ovals using the Giga Scalloped Punch. I used regular toothpicks and stuck them to the scalloped ovals (and I did the same for the orange scalloped circles with the basketballs) with a pop-dot scrap to hold it down. I added a couple more pop-dots and then layered the white cardstock with the image on top.
I stamped out a bunch of basketball images from the Sporty Accessories set onto white cardstock and colored them in with Copic markers. I punched them out with a 1 1/4 inch circle punch and mounted them on brown cardstock which I punched out with a 1 3/8 inch circle punch. Those got layered on top of orange scalloped circles.
I made vanilla cupcakes with lemon frosting and WOW did all that sugary goodness smell amazing! I know they're going to be the first thing to go tonight!
Time has passed.....and we just got home from the banquet. The cupcakes WERE the first thing to go! Everyone loved them and I got so many great comments on them!
I know that the frosting tasted delicious because I got to lick the knife after I frosted them all, but I never got a cupcake, they went THAT FAST!
I did 4 cupcakes in the Wilton Silly Feet Silicone baking cups because I had run out of paper cupcake liners and after I thought about it, I realized that it was a risky set of liners to bring to a banquet with over 100 people attending. But.....I made a note to let people know not to throw them out and I got them all back, so it's all good.
I even saved a couple of the toppers so that I can put them on a scrapbook page as I took some pictures when Girly's team were all standing up with the coach during the acknowledgment ceremony.
And.....every player this season got to go home with a brand new Spalding basketball! Looks like I'll have to keep these two stamp sets out even though game season has ended for more scrapbook pages! And I think my husband will be putting up my old basketball hoop soon so Girly has something to throw her basketball into!
Oh wow how fun Erika! These turned out AWEsome! And congrats to Girlie, their team rocks!!
