***NOTE*** Don't forget to enter my Groovy Give-Away post for a chance to win a fantastic stamping instructional book!
There was a Land Cruiser party last night over at GinaK Design's forum on SCS last night and I led one of the challenges. I always enjoy thinking up fun sketches or ideas for people to do and then see what they create with those challenges. It always amazes me that so many women can take the same challenge and create things that are so incredibly different!
This is the card that I created for my challenge. My challenge was to have people create a card that used chipboard in some way. We all have those piles of chipboard sitting in our craft rooms, but I think that so many of us either forget it's there or just don't know how to use it. This challenge is making us get those fabulous chipboard pieces out and explore the possibilities they have.
There's still time to take part in this challenge for a chance to win a free stamp set from GinaK Designs.
You can check out the challenge and the details for entering here: ---> Erika's Land Cruiser Challenge
Don't wait too long to participate, though. The challenge ends tomorrow night (FRIDAY NIGHT - 10/25).
I created this card using the new GinaK Designs Warm and Cozy Christmas set. This is such a sweet set with those two little darlings out playing in the snow. They remind me so much of my own kids all bundled up in their winter jackets and snow pants and having a blast out in that magical "white stuff."
I colored the image with my ink pads and watercolor brush (I squish the lids of the ink pads against the pads themselves and add a little water to the open lid to create my own custom color "paint"). This image doesn't come with a striped cane or a striped scarf, but I added the stripes with Riding Hood Red ink because I wanted to change things up a bit.
I roughed up the Baja Breeze card base a bit by swiping it with Baja Breeze ink pad. I did the same with the Kiwi Kiss cardstock strip that goes across the card.
If you look closely, you can see the Dazzling Diamonds glitter that I added to all the little snow flakes that are falling down, on the snowman's tummy and also along the snow on the ground. I just can't have snow with out some glitter and sparkle going on.
The chipboard that I used for my card is the large patterned chipboard scalloped circle. I got this in a pack of patterned chipboard from Making Memories. It was already decorated and it fit this image perfectly. Actually, the colors in the pack that I got (Jigsaw Shapes in neutral) match the Kiwi Kiss, Baja Breeze and Riding Hood Red really well. I didn't realize when I bought it, but when I took it out to see if there was anything in the pack that I could use for this challenge, I was really excited that it went so well with that color combination. Right now, it's one of my favorite color combos.
The greeting on this card was stamped in Basic Black and also came in the Warn and Cozy Christmas set.
Just to add something a little extra and finish off the card, I took out my paper piercing template, tool and mat and pierced some holes in the upper right and lower left corners. I really like this effect. It's subtle enough but just what it needed to complete it.
If you want to take up this challenge, remember, this is only open for one more night to enter. But....don't let that stop you from taking out your chipboard and using it on your cards more and more. Once you start using it, you'll be hooked!
Happy Creating!

Erika, this card is fantastic! You always have a wonderful way of putting the right colors together. I almost bought that stamp set and now I am kicking myself for not having done so. If my wrist heals better in the next 2 weeks I just may buy it. :)
