I love altering CD tins and lately, I've been having fun filling them with little gift tags so that the tin can serve as not only a consumable gift, but also a practical and permanent gift. Once the tags are all used up, the receiver still has the tin to keep other things in, like jewelry, rain-day-cash, etc.
I thought it would be fun to make a tin full of gift tags using the Limited Edition 1st Anniversary Set - A Year of Thanks + 3 Step Humming Bird sets from Kitchen Sink Stamps.
Maria brought this set out during this last release and it includes all 12 “Thank You” stamps that were sent with each and every order over this past year! Plus a Bonus mini set. This mini set is a very special 3 Step Hummingbird, that can only be found here in this set.
I used pretty much ALL the images in these sets for this project, except for the greetings on the hummingbird set.
The front of the CD Tin was covered with patterned paper from the Urban Garden Designer Series pack (Stampin' UP) using my Coluzzle cutting system. Using the Coluzzle cutter made it really easy to measure out and cut the strips that go across the large circle on the top of the tin.
The hummingbird was stamped on Very Vanilla cardstock and I used the oval template in my Coluzzle cutting system to cut that out and the layer that it's mounted on. I used a couple of copper brads for embellishment and mounted the ovals on top of the tin using pop-dots.
I know that you all like when I post the inks that I used for each layer when it comes to these types of layered images.
The hmmingbird actually has 6 stamps to completely the image, but it's not hard to use at all. I promise!
Hummingbird Layers
Step 1) Kiwi Kiss (stamped off once on scrap paper)
Step 2) Kiwi Kiss (fully inked)
Step 3) Old Olive
Step 4) Taken with Teal
Step 5) Elegant Eggplant
Step 6) Basic Black
I actually came up with my color theme by matching up my ink colors with the colors of the index sheet that these stamps come on. There are so many more combinations that you can come up with, though. I find that one of the easiest ways to make color combos work for these multi-layered images is to "stamp off" my inks and then layer a full inked image on top (stamp the image once onto scrap paper for one layer, then stamp a fully inked image over the top of it). It's much easier to use two different shades of the same color rather than trying to match up multiple ink colors.
I stamped the little "thank you" images on white cardstock and then either punched them out or cut them using my paper cutter. I mounted each one on either a punched scalloped circle or on trimmed cardstock. I punched a circle in each of them using my 1/8 inch hole punch and threaded gold and copper cording in each to make a slip knot.
I cut a circle of white tissue paper and lined the bottom of the CD tin with it and laid the tags on top.
These little thank you tags are great for giving a gift to someone when you want to thank them for something....like babysitting, bringing over a meal when you're sick, doing something kind for you, etc.
Happy Creating!
