Did you know that it will soon be the ONE year anniversary for Kitchen Sink Stamps? It was in October of last year, right before I came home from our vacation in Florida, that I got the email from Maria asking me to be on her Design Team. I can't believe a whole year has already passed!
In the past year, it's amazing to see how much Kitchen Sink Stamps has grown. I love working with the graphic and clean images, but one of my newest loves (thanks to KSS) are the 3-step images. They look so lifelike and photo-like! They're easy to line up and there's just nothing else out there like them! Maria has definitely found her niche in designing!
I have a soft spot in my heart for this 3-step Get Well Teddy set. When I was a kid, teddy bears were my favorite stuffed animal. I had a huge collection. Some of those have been passed on to my daughter and she loves them just as much as I did. Many of my bears were well loved and they showed it. They weren't all pretty looking after the years of hugging, playing, carrying around and friendship I shared with them. When I saw the 3-step Get Well Teddy set, it reminded me so much of some of the most loved of my teddies. My mind immediately saw a vintage look, which is what inspired me to create this card in a vintage style.
You know how much I adore distressing and swiping my cardstock. I love the rough and aged look it gives to it. I used the new Riding Hood red cardstock and swiped around the edges with the same color of ink. I did the same thing with the Creamy Caramel and Close to Cocoa cardstock layers that I used. I used Creamy Caramel ink to swipe around the Very Vanilla cardstock that I stamped the bear on.
Speaking of the bear, I know it always helps with 3&4-Step sets to know what color of inks were used on the different layers to get the look that was created. Here's what I used:
Step 1) Creamy Caramel
Step 2) Close to Cocoa -stamped off once onto scrap paper first
Step 3) Close to Cocoa - fully inked
Step 4) Basic Brown
The 3-Step Get Well Teddy set also comes with two different sized flowers and stems. You can stamp them in different layers for a more detailed look or you can just stamp the first steps if you're looking to create a silhouette look which is really popular right now. That's what I did for the three flowers in the lower right corner of my card. I stamped them at different heights for a little more variety and used the Riding Hood Red ink on the Riding Hood Red cardstock so that it wasn't too visually overwhelming.
Now that I've done the silhouette look with this image, I have a ton of ideas floating in my head to use them the same way with different techniques. I'm definitely going to play around with those ideas this week and show them on my blog.
The greeting that I used on this card also comes from the Teddy set. This is such a great get-well set, especially because of all the unique and original sentiments that come in it. There's the ever-popular "Get Well Soon," but make sure you check out the other sentiments.....you won't find these anywhere else! I used Basic Brown ink to stamp the greeting.
Because I was going for a vintage look, I used my distressing tool (from my SU Cutter Kit) to rough up the edges of my cardstock layers. It really helps to carry over the rough, worn and aged look.
I used pop-dots to mount the teddy bear image on top of my brown cardstocks. (I love dimension, if you haven't yet figured that out....haha!)
I felt like the Creamy Caramel strip of cardstock across the card needed something just a little extra, so I used my paper piercing template and mat and pierced three holes on each edge of the strip and secured some mini vintage copper brads in the holes. They match the colors so well and really carried over the theme.
Do you have a friend that isn't feeling so hot these days? It's amazing what a simple card will do to brighten up the day for someone that's under the weather. Trust me.....I know. :) Why not send a get well card to someone you know to perk them up? :)
Happy Creating!
