I was playing around with that fantastic 3-step Aloha set again and decided to alter a CD tin. Originally I was going to make another CD album, but then got to thinking of doing something NON-related to CDs. That's when I thought it would be nice to make something practical AND pretty at the same time. How cute would it be to give a gift of tags that can be used on gifts and when the tags are all gone, there's still a pretty little tin that can be used for jewelry, CDs, change, etc. Who says you can't use the tin once everything inside is gone?
I used my Coluzzle cutting system to cut all the circles I used for this project. The template made it really easy to see through and hold on top of the lid of the tin to figure out what size I would need. To do the bottom layer of colored cardstock, I simply cut just one groove out from what I cut the inside layer.
I used Kiwi Kiss cardstock for the lid and Whisper White cardstock on top. The leaves were stamped in three layers. Here's the layers that I used for the images:
LEAVES:
Step 1) Kiwi Kiss (stamped off once onto scrap paper first)
Step 2) Kiwi Kiss (fully inked)
Step 3) Old Olive
FLOWERS:
Step 1) Apricot Appeal
Step 2) Cameo Coral
Step 3) Ruby Red
Step 4) Baroque Burgandy
The "mahalo" greeting is from the Aloha set, as well, and was stamped with Basic Black ink.
I wanted to make things sparkle a bit so I used my 2-way glue pen to adhere some Dazzling Diamonds glitter to the flowers and leaves. I added some self-adhesive rhinestones to the top of the tin lid for more sparkle.
Along the outside edge of the bottom of the tin, I adhered a length of Always Artichoke grosgrain ribbon. I love using Sticky Strip (also know as "tacky tape" or "red line tape") for adhering ribbon to tins. I mount the adhesive all the way across the length of ribbon so that it doesn't move around on the tin. Especially when you're twisting the tin open.
Inside the tin, I placed a piece of tissue paper for the gift tags to lay on. I ended up making a total of 12 tags for this tin, but these pictures only show 3 of them.
Again, I used the Coluzzle cutting system for these. It makes cutting lots of them SO easy! I made 6 tags with Kiwi Kiss cardstock and 6 with Riding Hood Red cardstock. I also changed up the floral images on these tags and used the smaller leaf image so that they fit better on the tags.
Here are the layers I used for the 5-petal flower:
5-Petal Flower:
Step 1) Apricot Appeal
Step 2) Cameo Coral
Step 3) Ruby Red
I sparkled the leaves and flowers on the tags with Dazzling Diamonds glitter just like I did on the top of the tin lid. The greetings were all taken from the Aloha set. I made sure to do different types of greetings so there was more variety.
I punched holes at the top of the tags with my 1/4 inch hole punch and threaded Always Artichoke and Chocolate Chip grosgrain ribbon and secured them as slip knots.
I was thinking about the other uses for these CD Tins (which you can get from Kitchen Sink Stamps for just $3.00 for a set of 2!) besides just housing CDs.
You could fill them with:
* Gift tags
* A mini scrapbook <--- click on that link for a free tutorial!
* Gift certificate or gift card
* Cash or check
* A tie for the man in your life
* Fairy dust (glitter) for a little girl
* Mini tweezers and magnifying glass for a little boy that likes to catch bugs
What kinds of things can YOU think of to put in these tins?
Happy Creating!
