A couple months ago, one of the girls from church commissioned me to make some "thank you" cards for her with an oriental flair. She has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do (and teaches it) and needed to give cards to the people that help do the evaluations when her students test for their next belts. I've actually done "thank you" cards for this girl quite a few times over the past 5 or 6 years.
This time around, we bartered the cost of the cards for my daughter to take her sword & shield class, which was a 4 week course. This was a chance for us to see if our daughter enjoyed martial arts enough to want to sign up in the fall. She LOVED the class and we'll be signing her up for beginners Tae Kwon Do in September.
Anyway............I've used oriental sets in the past but many of them retired and I sold them all off except for one. I'd used that set many times in the past so I wanted to do something different for Anne this time around.
I couldn't find any Korean word characters online so I had to use a Chinese character instead. I looked for the character for wisdom since that's what her evaluators were sharing with her students.
This card doesn't have any stamping on it, but it's a good example of how you can create a card even without stamps. If you simply can't find the stamp you're looking for, you can always go online and print something off and attach it to a card. (Because of copyright laws, you should not print out images on cards that you're planning to sell if the images are copyrighted.)
I also typed out the greeting for my cards in my word program and printed those out on white cardstock and trimmed them down so that I could put them on the fronts of my cards.
To make these cards, I chose some beautiful metallic finished paper that was retired from Stampin' Up quite a few years ago but that I've been holding on to for a while. I've also been holding on to the Magic Mesh that retired a while ago. This was a great opportunity to use up paper and embellishments that have been sitting around for a while.
Here is another version of the first card, just using a different color scheme.
The Chinese wisdom character was mounted on top of the card with pop-dots for some extra dimension.
Ya know, it's been SO long that I've had that paper that I can't even remember what the name of it was!
Tell you what......here's a contest. Tell me what pack of paper those silver and gold papers came from and I'll toss all the names into a hat and pick out a winner on Monday (June 16th). In the meantime, I have to go through my old catalogs and find out where they came from so that I also know the right answer. :)
Happy Creating!

They came from the packages called Copper Kiss and Silver Kiss. I think I still have some somewhere in my paper stack... In addition to regular printed paper, they also sold vellum packages with the same patterns.

Erika, thanks for the laugh. I think you want your daughter to try MARTIAL ARTS, not MARITAL ARTS. She'll find out soon enough if she likes marital arts!
