That is a beautiful story. You are a blessing to so many others. You truly understand what Jesus tried to explain to others about giving to those in need. And you taught your children the same message. Bless you. Have an amazing Christmas.

I can't remember the last time something has touched me so much! God bless you & your family.

I have been very depressed this holiday season. Christmas is all about sales... and how much profit this store and that store is going to make. Thank you for showing me that not everyone has forgotten what Christmas is REALLY about!

I am not able to go home for Christmas for the first time in 5 years... so I signed up to help in a soup kitchen. And I can't think of any place I'd rather be.

i was perusing back posts--catching up on blurfing after a few busy weeks--when i came across this post. your children are like any children--they don't need presents, they need our presence. your children are so secure because they know they are lavishly loved, and presents don't really lavish love like a life does.

keep on keepin' on, sister Christian.

Knowing how stressed out Xmas makes me, trying to buy the "perfect gifts" to make my family "happy", I see great value in your tradition. I totally respect what you are doing, and think it is a much better thing than what most of us do. It has made me do some deep thinking, after reading your post. Kudos to you for doing what you truly believe in, and I think you and your children get lots more JOY from doing that, than receiving a bunch of gifts. I am truly inspired by your story. Blessings to you and your family!!! :D

Wow! What a beautiful family tradition. Your story brought tears to my eyes. I'm sitting here at 3:30 in the morning (very pregnant insomniac) and have been inpired to DO MORE for the people in this world that are less fortunate than I. Starting my own family this year has made me ask some questions of myself about how I want to raise my family...you have inspired me to "think outside the box." Although I will continue with our usual family traditions, next year will have a twist...giving back. Thank you!

Erika, I truly admire the way you are raising your children. I wish I had done different when I was raising my daughter. She is grown and has four children herself now. I believe your children will grow up to be very giving adults. You are truly raising them in a Christian manner. God Bless You. The world would be a better place if more people was like you. Most are so concerned with what they want first! Your children are truly learning the meaning of Christmas. Thank you for sharing.

Allison

Jealous of your dedication to this tradition. I need to talk to my husband and family about this...our kids are getting way more than they need and it is just ridiculous (esp. with all the extended family). I love Christmas and I love giving gifts...I need to redirect that energy!
