The best gift...well, I struggle everyday to give this gift over and over - myself in service to God. Even my struggle with selfishness is a gift, because I am struggling but my desire is His service. Whether it is openness to new life through my husband and I marriage Sacrament, especially in the face of miscarriage (one earlier this year, and currently facing this giant again), or the giving of my body in service to my husband and children. These are just a few of what I consider the more important examples.

I enjoyed reading everyone else's sharing too - Thanks for asking these great questions Erika - they keep us united on many levels, as we are all One Body in Christ.

Merry Christmas!

The best gift-I gave my "little sister" tickets to see Dirty Dancing.
My little sister and I have been with the Big Sister agency for over 11 yrs.
She has given me unconditional love and laughter over the years and I couldn't think of a better way to spend the day with her!
Happy New Year-Shannon

The best gift I ever gave was for my Grandma's 93rd birthday last year. She adores my 1 year old son so I made her a stand-up frame with 4 coasters covered in paper and I put different pictures of my son on each side. She adored it and she has it on her table in the kitchen where she says she eats breakfast with Tyler every morning.

Years ago, when I was first married, we did not have too much money, so I handmade all my gifts because of this. I did crocheted items, cross-stitched items, etc. I was not into card making that far ago, LOL, but everyone seemed to appreciate all the time I put into my gifts, so this would have to be one of the mot memorable Christmas's I have had.

The best gift I gave to my sister, she was working at a sketchy place and could not afford a cell phone for emergencies so I surprised her with one for Christmas. She has since changed jobs and after she moved it was stolen from her apartment, and 4 years later i got a phone call from the phone company saying I had to buy a new card for it or it would be disconnected, We laughed about that thinking it was still being used by someone out there.

I Soooooo love to give gifts. I am always trying to be the one who gives the gift that makes some one cry. Isn't that terrible?!?! Well one year for Christmas I purchased little tiny solitare birthstone ring charms for my mother. One for each Grandchild. The out side box was HUGE, it had orrigionaly housed a tv. I wrapped and nested each box inside the next with a little note that said something to the effect of "not yet .. try again" stuck as the tag for the next size box. There were more than 5 boxes to open before the getting got good. In the next to last box was a birthstone ring charm for each grandchild she already had and a small note that said .. but wait there's more... She didn't catch on.. she thought maybe it was a special charm holder. Instead when she opened the last little box she found it was another ring charm with the birthstone she hadn't already had a grandchild for. Her Jaw dropped and the tears flowed with out so much as a blink. That birthstone ring charm sybolized her first Grandson. My Mohter passed away 2 and a half years ago and each of the grandkids now have their own birthstone ring charms. I think they are one of their most prized possesions. To me, they were the gift that kept giving.
Im glad to hear you had a great Birthday. I hope your Christmas was perfect too. Your such a giving person your self, you deserve the best.
Thanks for this great give away. Now, Im going back to read the other comments and posts. Have a safe and happy new year!

Wow, that requires some thought...unfortunately I don't have time for much thought with two kids so I will say the best gift I gave this Christmas was to donate with 5 friends towards a Christmas hamper of gifts and groceries to a needy family.

Happy Holidays and thanks!

One of the best gifts that I ever gave was for my brother's birthday this year. His wife had passed away 4 months earlier and I wanted to do something to brighten his day. I knew that he didn't have any pictures from our childhood. Ya know, guys just really aren't into asking for those things. So, I went through all of mom and dad's old photos, scanned them in and printed them. Then made him a scrapbook of his school years/ages. It had pictures of him and his childhood friends, his first car, his first motorcycle. When we all got together for his birthday and he opened that he literally was crying! We had so much fun looking at the pictures together, reminiscing and laughing. It was awesome.

I think the best gift I ever gave was to my (still!) BFF: a huge, framed collage depicting all of her interests, her memorable events, and all the people in her life.

She cried buckets so she either loved it or hated it, LOL!

Happy belated B-day and best wishes to you & yours for a happy and healthy 2008!

The best gifts I ever gave were 2 little scrapbooks of my daughter to my dad and my mom. Of course when Grandparents and other relatives know that you stamp/scrapbook they begin to expect handmade gifts.

I have given a lot of gifts and definitely have gone overboard as far as giving way toooooooo much to my children and grandchildren. The best presents aren't ones you buy at the mall...the best presents are those that come from the heart. You can't put a price tag on giving of ones time or giving a gift from your heart, because they involve sacrifice rather than a monetary value. My own mother taught me the true meaning of giving as I watched her driving every elderly neighbor that lived on our block to the grocery store, to their doctor appts, to church, or wherever else they needed to go. She would shovel their sidewalks, rake their leaves, clean their refrigerators, etc. Every day of her life was devoted to helping others. I have tried to follow her example in being a "giver" like my mother was. Sometimes it seemed so much easier to just hand someone a $20 bill & tell them to call a cab, but I learned quickly that the true joy in life is when you give someone the gift of your love...that rarely involves money.

The best gift I ever gave. Wow, that would be a tough one. I always try to put lots of thought into my gifts. I guess the best gift would be a coupon book that I made for each of my children 2 years ago, when money was tight, with things they could redeem, like one trip to the movies (money allowing), one day of time alone with each parent, driving time (for my learning to drive child), one time to make something in the kitchen with just the two of us, etc.

Lori

Wow...that's a tough question! I think anything handmade is most appreciated. I love giving the gift of cards I've made.

When my oldest daughter turned 16 I made her a quilt. Each block had some kind of heart design in it. I really worked on it a long time and it turned out so well. She was really tickled and we still talk about that day today.

Last year I called everyone in our family and made a family cookbook for christmas. It took about 6 months to get everything together and complete but it was something everyone could keep and treasure.

Hello =)

Time spent, thoughtfully made.

I believe it's the thought that counts more than the end products.

What first came to mind was my son, Martin. Every year that passes with good healthy is a thankful blessing.

Last night I told Andy I didn't need a Christmas present; I was already looking at my 2 finest gifts anyone can be given. We have all money can buy and then some. No one can really buy the future, health or time.

Treasure it always. Live each day as if it was your last.

My best gift I ever gave would be a picture frame. I filled the frame with pictures (12 in all ) of memories that can be looked back at for years to come. i love the stamp sets. Thanks for a chance to win them.

The one gift that I have given that I could tell it really and truly touched the person's soul was when I gave my grandmother a dozen of roses. She has always lived very simply and gift giving wasn't high on my grandfather's list of things to do, so no one had ever given her a whole dozen of roses before. She cried. She's no longer with us and I am so glad I took that saying to heart about giving flowers while they are still living...........

I think the best gift I ever gave was a crewel embroidery picture (it was about 2 1/2 feet by 3 feet)which I had done and gave to my In-Laws....it took me a couple years to complete it and have it framed but the look on my In-Laws faces when they opened it was priceless and of course, there were lots of tears!! TFS :o)

Wow....this is amazing blog candy....to go with an amazing blog. I hadn't seen your blog before and just saw a post on SCS about the store so had to check it out. I am very sleep deprived right now and can't really think of anything awesome...I always try to give gifts that really mean something, but generally forget about things like that after I do them.

cindi

I just stumbled on your blog and am really enjoying reading it and seeing all your neat ideas. We too like to take things to the "neighbors". This year we pooled our extra cash with some friends from our Sunday School. We put together goody baskets and frozen home cooked meals for some elderly people in our church. That was definetly the best gift I gave this year.

Deborah Bryson

Hmmm this doesn't seem to have worked. So will try again. This is the first time I've seen your blog and it's fantastic!! So is the blog candy. I'm very sleep deprived at the moment, so can't really think of anything off the top of my head. I tend to forget about things that I do for others which I suppose is a good thing. But I always try to make it something that means the most to them.

Kay

Best gift? Hmmmm.
I think the best gift I ever gave was to my really good friend. We love Adrianna Trigianni's books. I bought her a book and had Adrianna autograph it to my friend. It was really funny though because Adrianna autographed it to me instead. Now my friend has a book from me that was autographed to me. Great laughs!
