When I got Cheryl's comment in my inbox, it brought me back to when I was 6 years old and my dad and I waited in line at the local Toys R Us for my first Cabbage Patch Kid.
The line was SO long and we were there for hours (or what seemed like hours to a 6 year old) in that line back in their warehouse. That was 24 years ago, but I still vividly remember it. I remember what the warehouse looked like. I wanted one SO bad and my father was WAY more than patient to stand in line with me for something like a doll. When we got up to the little booth where they were handing out dolls, we didn't have a choice as to what we got. The woman behind the booth handed us a doll and that was the one I got. Take it or leave it. It wasn't quite what my 6 year old mind envisioned my first CBK to look like, but I took it anyway because I wanted one badly. I came to love that doll immensely and still have it to this day. It looks like it's seen a lot of love (which it has) and it's missing the original clothes it came in, but I still have it.
The name the doll came with was hideous. I don't even remember what the name was, but I do remember sending in the "official" adoption papers to change her name. I renamed her Janet Erin. We loved "Three's Company" as kids, so I named her after Joyce DeWitt's character on the show. Erin is my middle name. When my adoption papers came back in the mail, my sister opened the envelope and I was NOT happy about this. It was MY mail and I was excited about it. So.....to get her back, I gave away her puffy Smurfette sticker to a girl in my class. Yes, both of us still remember all of this to this day. And I even remember the name of the girl I gave her sticker to. Every once in a while, my sister and I bring this all up, just for poo and giggles. ;)
Thanks to all of you for sharing your favorite holiday memories!
Happy Creating!
