Beth Singer asked: How many hours of sleep do you need each night? It seems like you fill the hours in your day fuller than most people I know, and yet you still have time for everything important. Maybe you only need a couple of hours of sleep?!?
My answer: It's funny how many people end up asking me this same thing. I get asked if I'm a night owl or an early bird.
Here's an interesting fact about "the girl behind the blog".....
I'm both.
And when I tell people this, I usually get the same answer every single time: "How can you be both?"
Simple.
I get up early and I go to bed late. ;)
Okay, okay.....so it can't be THAT simple, can it?
Well, yes.......it is.
Sleep? Who needs to sleep when there's so much still to stamp? There's only 24 hours in a day. I think it's totally reasonable for me to fill up at least 12 of those with stamping/scrapbooking/altered art and paper-crafting. I'm usually in bed after midnight and up before or around 6 am. How can I justify sleeping when I want to stamp, stamp, stamp? The first thing I think about when I go down to sleep is that I can't wait to wake up in the morning. And the first thing I think of when I wake up is....WHAT CAN I STAMP?
Now......my husband and children disagree with me.
My kids sometimes have to hunt for their own food. My daughter is usually seen barefoot, wielding a butterfly net in one hand and a fistful of catnip in the other hand. She catches bugs with the net and God only knows what she's doing with the catnip. My son is a master of bugs, insects and everything else creepy crawly. Some people think this instinct kicked in out of necessity because his mother can't tear herself away from sniffing Stampin' Mist and experimenting with spray adhesive, kool-aid powder and her embossing gun. And it's amazing what these kids bring home for dinner and what you can cook with an embossing gun. It's almost as good as cooking dinner in tin foil on the manifold under the hood of the van.
My husband is convinced that I need more than my usual 5 or 6 hours of sleep. He's constantly making me make promises that I can't keep. Like going to be at 10 pm? SNORT! That's prime time for me, baby. Actually, 6 am is prime time for me, too. Come to think of it, so is 10 am, 1 pm, 5 pm.......if I could ask for God to change one thing about me, it would be that I didn't even need those 5 or 6 hours of sleep. Now.......I'm only 30 years old and I'm sure it'll catch up with me eventually, but for now, I'm eeking out every second that I can that I don't have to sleep. My husband is also convinced that if it weren't for him nagging me to go to bed and get some sleep, that I would be dead of sleep deprivation by now. I just laugh at him. After all.....if I weren't still awake at 1 am, I wouldn't get to laugh until my sides hurt when he comes to the top of the stairs in a sleepy stupor and ask me to "make sure that the full weight of the house is resting on the support beams so that it doesn't fall and collapse." Yes, folks, my husband sleep talks AND walks and this is actually what I got to laugh at tonight....only 10 minutes ago. Of course, being the wonderful and supportive wife that I am, I go along with these conversations of his and humor him. Then I tell him all about it in the morning and laugh at him all over again. ;) I'm such a nice wife. Yes, I am. :)
My husband is a carpenter. He puts in anywhere between 40-45 hours a week. It's a physically demanding job. He's tired when he gets home. When his body is worn out, it doesn't take long for him to fall asleep.
Sometimes, he's crazy enough to think that I might want to actually go up early....like BEFORE 9 pm!!! *GASP*
His usual question (assuming that he's actually still AWAKE at 9 pm): "So, do you think you might want to come to bed early with me tonight?"
My response: "HA! Now what would I want to do THAT for? It's not even 9 pm yet!"
He retorts: "Well, you know.....maybe to snuggle and *cough* something else?"
I just look at him and laugh and say: "Yah, right! That's what weekends are for. I'm too busy stamping. Call me on Saturday for a good time. My number's on the bathroom wall."
And with that, my friends.....I'm off to bed. Tomorrow's the weekend....I gotta get my sleep! ;) The hubby's not gonna let me spend it ALL stamping. ;) *wink*
(And I'm totally kidding about "the weekends"....do you think I could resist a looker like that the entire week???)
Cute post Erika. I suffer from Insomnia so I can relate to the staying up all night...it's when I get my best work done and my DH is just like yours...regarding going to bed and wanting to know if I will make it up there some time soon for some "snuggling" ...LOL.

Erika,
My personal life has A LOT to to with how many hours I actually sleep these days(husband walking out on me and our last child (18 yrs old) left at home after 23 years of marriage and his explanation is "He's unhappy". Soo, lots of time for my creative endeavors for sure, not the way I would like it to be, BUT, gotta keep on going..right?? When you described the "methods" of cooking dinner I laughed so hard (actually through the whole article) and it reminded me of the scene from the movie "Benny and Joon" with Johnny Depp where he cooks his grilled cheese sandwiches with an iron!!! I've actually thought of giving that a try sometime...:) Take care
Peace & Laughter

Hysterical! I'm with you 100%! I'm a "to bed around midnight, up around 6ish" person too. If I could live without sleep I actually would - then I could get so much more accomplished! And my poor hubby, who is ready for bed by 10pm, sucks it up each night until I'm ready for bed because as he says, "well, 11pm is about the only time I get to see you!" :-)
Keep on stampin' girlfriend! LOL!

Oh your post about your sleeping and your husbands sleeping cracked me up! Why else do men want us to go to bed with them at the same time. To cuddle. Well, okay maybe for a few minutes. Ha-ha. I'm like you Erika, I get 5 hours of sleep at night once in awhile a little more. I'm a older then you but I have been sleeping 5-6 hours almost all of my life. :) I am fortunate that Wayne works second shift and some times as late as 2 AM so I have more time alone.
Hope you and your family are having a wonderful 3 day weekend.

You both are lookers and make the cutest couple. I love your picture. I also love the picture of your free-spirit daughter! That picture could win a picture contest for sure!
As one who reaps the rewards of your sleep-deprived mind...I hope you keep on stamping too. You are a bundle of energy just oozing talent, with all the beautiful things you put out. We will all sleep someday. LOL

LOL! How funny you are. I get funnier myself later at night. Kinda like Johnny Carson laughing at my own dumb jokes. :}
I too am a night owl, however I have a serious dislike for mornings :{
