Here's another one of the projects that I taught at my technique class last Tuesday night. This project didn't actually look like this when I left the class.....I tweaked it a bit and added some extras.
I just LOVE little 3-D projects and this one is super easy to make once you have the dimensions down. The Scoring Blade on your Paper Cutter will be your best friend for this project.
To make this project:
1) I cut a piece of Cool Caribbean cardstock at 6 1/4 x 2 3/4 inches. I then put the cardstock into my paper cutter horizontally (so that it measured across the cutter at 6 1/4 inches.) I scored it at 1 1/2 inches, then in between the 2 inch and 2 1/8 inch mark, then at 4 1/8 inch, then in between the 4 3/4 and 4 7/8 inch mark.
2) I used the Snowflakes stamp set and stamped the smallest of the snowflakes on the Cool Caribbean cardstock with the same color ink.
3) I stamped the medium sized snowflake on Buckaroo Blue cardstock with the same color ink. I added a little bling to it by using a 2-Way Glue Pen on the snowflake and then adding some Dazzling Diamonds Glitter.
4) I stamped the words "happy" and "winter" using the Everyday Flexible Phrases stamp set on Buckaroo Blue cardstock with Basic Black ink.
5) I cut around the words and the snowflake and mounted those on Whisper White cardstock and cut around the images to leave a small white border.
6) To put the cover together, fold on the scored lines and use some SNAIL Adhesive to secure the overlapping cardstock on the bottom of the cover.
7) I wrapped a piece of silver ribbon around the box and made the ends meet up on the top of the cover. I then adhered the snowflake over the ends of the ribbon to hide them. I adhered the words to the right of the snowflake.
8) The box that goes on the inside was cut from Whisper White cardstock at 3 x 3 1/2 inches.
9) I scored the box the short way at 1/2 inch and 2 1/2 inches. Then the long way at 1/2 inch and 3 inches.
10) I folded on the scored lines, then cut along the scored line on the 1/2 inch edge of the long edge up to the scored line (the 1/2 inch mark going crossways....I hope this is making sense.) I did this same thing on the OTHER side of the box on the long edge. What you should have is a little cut slit in the corners on both long edges up to the scored line that marks the 1/2 inch that you scored the long way (believe me, it sounds better in my head than the mess it's coming out as I type. haha!)
11) I put adhesive on the little corner tabs that I had from cutting the slits. I folded these up and in and stuck them to the inside edges of the long edges. That made me a little box. That got slid into the cover to complete my matchbox.
It's honestly not as complicated as those last few instuctions make it sound. ;) These make cute little gift items to put a check in or even make a little miniature card to match the small size of the box. You could even make a small accordian card that pops up when you slide the box open.
And yes, I know, it's only just fall as of yesterday......but one can never be too prepared for holiday items. :)
Love Love Love your matchbox.. gonna have to make one of these very soon ..
TFS Keep up the Great work ...I Love visting your blog ..

Putting the mats behind the snowflake and words really makes the box even more WOW!

What a great idea! I've made little match boxes before, but making it card sized... wow, why didn't I think of that?!
