Another quick Simply Scrappin' Kit card....and a challenge to you!

Dscn4827Yes, I'm still working on that Winter Bright Simply Scrappin' Kit. It's amazing how much stuff comes in that package! It's like a Never Ending Gobstopper! It just keeps going and going and going.

I wanted to put together a quick card without stamping today and this is what I came up with. I've been hoarding (yes, I hoard, surprise, surprise......nothing new in the world of the Stampin' Mama) those big cardstock stickers that come in this pack. I just couldn't bring myself to use them on anything because what if I wanted to use them on something else later on? I had to slap myself around a few times before I came to the point that I could actually use them today, but I sucked it up and finally gave in. Nothing overly spectacular, but it's quick and easy and took me all of 3 minutes to put together. Literally. No joke! You can't even format a card on the computer and print it out in under 3 minutes! I know I've said it before, but I'll say it again.....those Simply Scrappin Kits really DO rock! :)

Dscn4828 It's extremely easy to slice a few pieces of cardstock, some paper and pop some stickers to it all. Imagine how quickly you could put together your holiday cards this way. I have used my kit for SO much and I still have plenty to use. Of course, I also have lots of stickers because I'm a hoarder. Well, now there's a challenge for me. I'm going to create a card using JUST a cardstock base and stickers. No cardstock layers, no patterned paper....just stickers.

I double dog dare you to do the same! :) Let's see what you can come up with! Send me a picture of your card made with just Simply Scrappin' Kit stickers! I'd love to see what your creativity cooks up!

Have a great week!

Happy Creating!

Card making without stamping....Simply Scrappin' Kits AGAIN!

Dscn4381_2I've been playing around with my Winter Bright Simply Scrappin' Kit again. I was thinking of what I could do to create something with either ribbons or paper strips, since I really enjoyed making the birthday cake with ribbons and the Christmas tree with paper strips.

I wanted to use a product that had coordinating ribbons or papers so that I didn't have to dig through every supply I had. That's when it hit me.....the Winter Bright Simply Scrappin' Kit!

See? I told you I think more of these kits than just the need to scrapbook!

And once again, here's a card that didn't even need a stamp or ink. Everything that you see on this card was taken directly from the Simply Scrappin' Kit.

I started by cutting the Wild Wasabi background paper from the kit first and then realized that I made it too big to fit on a traditional sized card. No problem. I just cut a bigger card. Who says that my card has to be a traditional size? But....that also means that I'll have to make my own envelope for it....but that means I can use some of the Designer paper from this kit to line the envelope with....yet ANOTHER use for this awesome kit!

When I put the card together, I realized I totally lucked out by having the blue designer paper cut the way it was. I didn't plan that at all! It has a perfect border of snowflakes around the edges. Dontcha just LOVE when stuff like that happens?

The strips that I used to decorate the tree are from the 12 inch border stickers in the kit. These border stickers are great because they can be used at any length! You can use them on a 12 x 12 page, but you can also cut them down to any length you want so that they will fit on a 6 x 6, 8 x 8, 8.5 x 11 pages, but they also work great as smaller accents on pages AND cards. And don't forget to use the really thin strips in between the big ones. These don't need to go to waste. They make perfect border stickers, as well.

Dscn4375 The sticker strips in this kit also have little word stickers of all shapes and sizes so they're perfect for card making. The Christmas tree wasn't going to look right without a trunk ...otherwise it would just end up being a floating decorated green triangle. I used some of the little word stickers to create the trunk, by stacking them on top of each other.

Even the little yellow circle with the red star in it on top of the tree is from the sticker sheet in the kit.

Even though I love cards without stamping......my fingers are starting to itch for ink again.

With all this wintery-stuff and snowflakes......it makes me happy that I'm going to the land of warmth as of tomorrow morning. We leave for a week in Florida. It's my kids' first time on a plane and they're looking forward to it. I'll be having a super special while I'm gone, so if you're not on my mailing list (you can sign up in the little box at the top of my blog, right under my picture), make sure you don't miss out. I'll be announcing it on Wednesday of this week!

Happy Creating!

One Design.....Multiple Cards

Penguin1_2We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming for another installment of "One Design.....Multiple Cards."

That made me feel all announcer-ish. ;)

I have not just ONE card to show you today, but TWO cards! And the great thing about them?? They both use the same layout design, but I've used totally different products and images on them. In fact, one of them doesn't use any stamps at all!

The first card that I created uses two of GinaK's new Fall/Holiday images, along with the large oval from her Scalloped Frames and Doodles set.

I had a lot of fun with this little penguin and was so pleased with how he turned out. This is my favorite watercoloring job on Whisper White cardstock EVER! I have never gotten flawless watercoloring on Whisper White before so this was a Monday of Victory! What a way to start the week!

My husband has been SO sick all weekend and stayed home from work today. I was sitting at my desk working on this card and asked him, "Honey, do penguins have orange feet?" He was reading something at the time and apparently I distracted him from something he was really into (he really couldn't do much more than read all weekend). He said, "I don't know." I said, "Fine, then he's getting orange feet." He thought I was being snarky with him or something because he said, "It's not that I don't want to answer you. It's just that I don't know and I'm REALLY interested in what I'm reading." I told him, "It's no big deal. I'm just used to talking to myself all day so it was kind of exciting to ask a question out loud and actually have someone other than myself actually answer the question." And yes, I do talk to myself quite a bit. The good thing about talking to myself is that I win EVERY STINKIN' argument! SCORE!

Penguin3 I used some of the papers and cardstock from the Winter Bright Simply Scrappin' Kit that I used in Saturday's post.

I used the lids of my ink pads for watercoloring the penguin. I went over with a light wash of color first and then went back on the edges with more ink to give the penguin shading. If you look closely, you can see that I used a really light dillution (yes, that's my own word....it's a cross between diluted and solution) of Going Grey ink on the belly and face of the penguin to give those areas a little more dimension. I also used this "dillution" to create a shadow underneath the penguin so that he didn't look like he was floating in a Scalloped doodle bubble. I mounted the penguin on the card with Pop-dots.

The greeting was done by coloring my greeting stamp with a Real Red Stampin' Write marker one word at a time and stamping them on Whisper White cardstock, then cutting them in a "retro fashion."

Yes, I had to subject poor little Petey the Penguin to glitter. (And a pink scarf, for that matter. He's a very secure penguin when it comes to his masculinity.) I took my 2-Way glue pen over the cuff and the pom-pom of his hat and sprinkled them with the ever illustrious Dazzling Diamonds glitter. Come on, you KNOW that hat is SO much cuter with glitter on it. Even on a boy penguin!

I had so much fun with this easy layout that I decided to try another card with the same layout design. This time with no stamping at all!

Secretgarden1These cards were cut at 7 3/4 x 3 7/8 inches. Yes, I know that sounds like a really weird measurement, but it just happened that way because I didn't want to cut into a full sheet of cardstock and the 7 3/4 inch length is what I had left on a piece of cardstock, so I went with it and the size ended up being something I really like. It's such a cute size.

For this card here, I used supplies from my FAVORITE EVER Simply Scrappin' Kit - the Secret Garden Kit. I chose the Groovy Guava and River Rock textured cardstocks from the kit, as well as one of the patterned papers.

The rest of the embellishments on this card were taken from the sticker sheets that come in the kit.

I really had my mind set on doing something that looked like a flower on a stem, but since I've used so many of the stickers already, I had to get a little creative. It's amazing what you can do with those lines of stickers in between the "real" border stickers. Those "left over strips" became the stem of the flower, as well as the borders above the "love" sticker. The love sticker looked so lonely without that special "something else." "Left over strips" to the rescue! The colors matched and it was just enough, but not too much. And who says "S" scrolls can't double as leaves? I had used up all the leaves on my sticker sheets and the flower just didn't look right without them (it actually looked like a flower shaped lollipop with a halo without the leaves and that just wasn't the look I was going for).

Secretgarden2 There was no stamping involved in this card and once again, another great use of the Simply Scrappin' Kits. This card took me less than 5 minutes to put together!

If you haven't yet used Stampin' Up's textured cardstock, you're missing out BIG TIME! This stuff ROCKS! It has such a rich look to it.....you can see the detail in this picture here. Both the River Rock and the Groovy Guava cardstock are textured.

Actually, ALL the cardstock in the Simply Scrappin' Kits are textured. I LOVE THIS STUFF! You can get it a bunch of different colors and it's colored all the way through. Gorgeous cardstock!

Hope you all have a lovely evening! See you tomorrow!

Happy Creating!

Simply Scrappin' Kit card....no stamping required! :)

Dscn4177I've had many of you asking to see more projects made from the Simply Scrappin' Kits that Stampin' Up offers. And many of you have asked to see projects that are NOT scrapbook pages....to see how you can use these kits for so much more than scrapbooking.

Now.....don't get me wrong. I LOVE scrapbooking! I've been scrapbooking longer than I've been stamping. It's just that when I look at these kits, I see SO much more creative potential in these kits than just scrapbook pages.

In all honesty, I'm not a scrapbooking "kit" kind of girl. I like to use all kinds of things on my scrapbooks and even though I adore coordinating products, I just don't gravitate towards kits for the purpose of scrapbooking with them.

I love these kits because there's SO much that you can do with them outside of scrapbooking BECAUSE of the coordinating products.

This card was made using the Winter Bright Simply Scrappin' Kit. Who knew Pretty in Pink, Real Red, Wild Wasabi and Bashful Blue could pass as holiday/winter colors. But they do! They give holiday projects a really nice face lift from the traditional (and sometimes tired) bright red and green.

Dscn4178 Everything it took to make this card came from the Winter Bright Kit....except for the ribbon. (I used Real Red grosgrain ribbon.) But if I know us stampers well enough, we've all got PLENTY of ribbon hanging around that we could use......and who's to say that we EVER have enough ribbon?!?!

This card didn't use ANY stamps. Yes, you read that right. No stamps! Every now and then, it's nice to go back to the basics and create a card without getting my fingers inky (no worries, though, my fingers will be screaming for ink tomorrow).

I had a downline training event today and the girls and I prepared for each of us to make 9 projects from this kit (and only ONE of those projects was actually a scrapbook page and only ONE of those projects was actually a card) and we STILL had a ton of supplies left to take home to keep creating with. And the projects that we made weren't conservative projects supply-wise. We did gift packaging, wallet cards, 2 different types of books and a chocolate sleeve. And the projects that we did at the event didn't include any stamping. We used the awesome cardstock stickers that are included in the kit! They were perfect for what we were creating!

It's really amazing how much you can do with these kits! Just when you thought you made a ton of stuff from it already, you STILL have more supplies to work with.

If you want to check out another project I created from a Simply Scrappin' Kit, make sure you check out my Secret Garden Paper Bag Book. LOVE LOVE LOVE these kits!

Have a wonderful weekend all! Make sure you don't miss out on the AWESOME Groovy Give-Away I have going on right now.....FREE STAMPS to the winner! :)

Happy Creating!

Quick card with the Simply Scrappin' Kits......and a question answered

Dscn3984_3I find that I can never have too many "thank you" cards. There's always someone to say "thank you" to, even if it's just for being a good friend. I find myself reaching for a "thank you" greeting more often than I reach for others.

I've spent most of today doing non-crafty things....unless doing dishes, washing out the trash can, making salads and watching movies is considered crafty. Well, for me it's not considered crafty and I needed to get my crafty fix in for the day and make a quick card. Okay, I DID clean off my craft desk because my daughter made a huge mess of glue, stickers and paper scraps on it, but I still don't think that qualifies as gratifying craftiness for me.

I looked through my stamp bins for something to work with but nothing screamed at me to be used today (I think my stamps wanted a break from me), so I pulled out one of my Simply Scrappin' Kits and decided that would be a great quick fix.

The Secret Garden Kit is my all time favorite kit from the new catalog. The colors and patterns are so soft, earthy and gorgeous together. As soon as I saw it, I knew it would be perfect for the Paper Bag Album that I put together.

As much as I love scrapbooking and it's what I started with LONG before I started stamping, I'm just not a "kit kind of girl." I prefer to work with a LOT of creative license when I'm scrapbooking, though I know that for some people, they LOVE working with kits. For cards, though, I LOVE these Simply Scrappin' Kits. They're more like "Simply Card Kits" to me. You can do an incredible amount of projects with these kits. I made that entire Paper Bag Album, as well as 3 other cards, and I'm STILL working on using up the supplies in the kit....it's like the supplies in those kits are never ending!

Dscn3985 Everything that I used on this card was from the kit, except for the ribbon and the stamped image.

All of the Simply Scrappin' Kits are new this year and they include a selection of beautiful textured cardstocks. They have a linen look and feel to them that's just luscious. You can kind of see it at the top of the card on the first picture, but you can definitely see it in the bottom right corner of the picture here to your left.

From one of the past Groovy Give-Away posts, Elizabeth asked:  What tool from your wish list will be your next purchase?

I really stick to the basics when it comes to tools. I have my paper cutters, my circle and oval cutters, embossing gun, crimper (though it doesn't really work right since my kids have tried to crimp matchbox cars through it and yah, that doesn't really work well), my Crafters' Tool Kit and my handy-dandy Cutter Kit. That's pretty much it when it comes to tools.....other than the essential and basic punches that I have. I really am a "back to the basics" type of girl. I don't own a Cricut. I don't own a Cuttlebug, a Bind -it-all, a Rubicoil, a Sizzix machine, a Xyron, a Quik-Kut, a Scor-Pal, a Spellbinder, a Carl Cutter, an ATG gun or a BigKick machine. Like I said, I'm a "back to the basics" kind of girl.

I guess none of that answered Elizabeth's question, now, did it?

Some may not consider these next two things as tools common in a stamper's "tool box," but I think it's partly because as stampers, most people wouldn't think of them as stamping tools. My wish list for tools is comprised of only two items. A REALLY beefed up digital camera and a 12 x 12 color printer that prints exceptional quality photos.

The camera I'm using now has been a great friend and great to learn on but the more I learn about cameras and how much more I could be doing, the more I want an upgraded and beefed up camera.

As a scrapbooker, I've been wishing for a 12 x 12 printer for a while now. I never print photos out on my printer because it's just not meant for that. But I've also wanted to put 12 x 12 cardstock through my printer for ages and no matter how hard I try to talk my 8.5 x 11 printer into feeding a 12 x 12 piece of cardstock through it, it's just plain stubborn and won't listen to me. It actually talks back to me and argues about it. Pfft!

So........probably not the answers you expected, but it's what I really want. I got the new computer last year and I just splurged on some more memory for it. The camera will be next on the list. Gotta save my pennies for it. :)

Have a great Saturday night!

Happy Creating!

Simply Scrappin' Kits equals Simply made cards!

Dscn3699_2I recently got one of the new Simply Scrappin' Kits to use in my Paper Bag Album Stamp Camp. The Secret Garden Kit.

This kit is absolutely gorgeous! The papers remind me of beautiful Victorian wallpaper. The colors are so rich. The designs are reminiscent of a bygone era of parlor rooms and crushed velvet couches. And the new textured cardstock in these kits are simply delicious.

There are a lot of great features about the Simply Scrappin' Kits. The first thing that most people think about when they see these kits is scrapbooking. But you can do so much more with these kits than just scrapbooking!

Sure, scrapbooking is great and I'm a huge fan of it.....I was actually a scrapbooker LONG before I became a stamper....but these kits lend themselves so well to card making, as well. And the kits make card making SO easy. In fact, this card came together in under 5 minutes!

I love stamping, but for this card, I didn't even have to pick up a stamp. Every thing I used for this card (except for the ribbon) came from the Simply Scrappin' Kit. I love the fact that if I don't have a lot of time, but I need a beautiful card, all I have to do is dig into the Simply Scrappin' Kit and I'll have a card made in minutes.

The cardstock stickers in the kit are perfect for embellishing cards.....and you get so many of the, too! The big medallion on the card is actually layered. The green circle is one sticker, the flower is another sticker, the leaf is another and the small circle is yet another sticker. I love how you can layers the stickers in this kit to come up with great looks.

I demonstrated a card similar to this last night at a workshop and I had some guests there that were brand new to stamping. Last night was their first introduction to stamping. When I started to tear the double-sided paper to give it some texture, one of the women asked, "Don't you use scissors?" I thought that was such a cute question.....I remember being a brand new stamper a little over 6 years ago and wondered what kind of patterned scissors people used to get such a real-looking torn look. Wow....has it really been that long that I've been stamping? Time sure flies when you're have THIS MUCH FUN! :)

Have a wonderful weekend!

Happy Creating!
