A Saint Patty's Day card....with punch art

Ginak_015_2 I wanted to make a BIG shamrock and have had this idea rattling around in my head for a little while now. I knew the Mega Heart Punch that GinaK sent me a little while ago would be perfect for this!

My original intention was to make a card that popped with green and sparkles. But things started going in a different direction all on their own and I just went with it. I ended up with a card full of earth tones that I just ADORE.

I cut a piece of Creamy Caramel cardstock for the card base and used a stamping sponge to RUB Creamy Caramel ink onto the edges. I didn't sponge it but rather, I rubbed it into the edges pretty hard. I sponged a little ink around the rest of the card to add some extra color.

I cut a piece of patterned paper from the Enchante Designer Series pack that just went out with the Winter Mini catalog last week. I really hope they'll put it into the big catalog come July 1st because it really is a beautiful pack of paper. I sponged some Creamy Caramel ink along the edges of the patterned paper to give it an aged look. I mounted this on a piece of Close to Cocoa cardstock that I had sponged with Close to Cocoa ink. This got mounted on my card.

I punched out 3 hearts with the Mega Heart Punch out of Certainly Celery ink. I rubbed Certainly Celery ink along the edges of the hearts and sponged some Creamy Caramel ink on the insides of the hearts. I sponged along the outside edges just a tad with some Close to Cocoa ink. I cut some little strips of paper from the Enchante pack and tapered them, then glued them to the hearts to give a little more dimension, texture and color. I used my Close to Cocoa marker to make little stitch marks along the inside edges of the hearts. I cut a stem freehand from Certainly Celery cardstock and sponged it up with some Certainly Celery and Creamy Caramel ink, then added the stitch marks.

I adhered the hearts together with a little bit of SNAIL Adhesive to create the shamrock and then mounted it to my card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Before I mounted the stem to the card, I made a little free-cut tag out of Creamy Caramel cardstock (also sponged up with Creamy Caramel ink). I used my Close to Cocoa marker to color in just the word, "Lucky," from the "Feelin' Lucky?" stamp and stamped it on the tag. I mounted it on a piece of patterned paper (the same one that I used for the inside of the hearts) and punched a hole through it with the 1/8" circle punch. I tied on a piece of Moss gingham ribbon around the stem and threaded the tag on the ribbon and finished tying the bow and trimmed the edges. I mounted the stem onto the card with Stampin' Dimensionals. I also popped up the tag with a Stampin' Dimensional.

So.....this card turned out completely different than what I had envisioned it to be in my mind....but I am MORE than happy with it! Maybe tomorrow I'll try to come up with what I saw in my head. :)

Oh, and speaking of punches and GinaK, don't forget to enter Gina's give-away on her blog for a Scalloped Oval Punch....these babies are hard to find and she'll even have some in her store....but not for long. They go QUICK! Click here ----->  Scalloped Blog Candy!
