June 27 - July 1 (Monday - Friday) 10 am - 12:30 pm
OR June 29, July 6, 13, 20 and 27 - Wednesdays 6 - 8:30 pm
Cost per student: $100 (Includes new Janome Sew Mini sewing machine)
(supply list sent upon registration)
As a young girl, I started early on the sewing machine and made little purses and stuffed animals that I could give as gifts and for myself. As I got older, I learned how to make my own clothes. In my teens, I worked alongside my mother and sister in our custom-made clothing business. I've continued to sew throughout my life and my 11-year old daughter is following in my footsteps as I've been teaching her how to sew for the past couple of years. I offer many years of experience, knowledge and creativity to my students, no matter their age. This course will walk you through the basics of sewing while you create 2 projects from start to finish. You'll learn: how to thread your machine & wind bobbins, the basic stitches, how to read simple patterns, how to trace patterns, how to use measurements for projects without a pattern, how to pin and cut fabric, and ironing and finishing.
July 8 (Friday) 6 - 9 pm
Cost per student: $22 (includes all supplies)
Scrapbooking is a popular past-time that goes back for many generations and is quickly becoming the #1 hobby in America. You'll create two mini scrapbooks during this evening course that will be perfect for filling with vacation photos, photos from special occasions, photos of your friends from school and more! I'll teach you how to layer colors, make and add fun embellishments, as well as how to journal in your scrapbooks to capture your memories. You'll also receive a CD with the instructions for your mini scrapbooks so that you can easily make them at home again and again.
July 18 - 22 (Monday - Friday) 10 am - 12:30 pm
Cost per student: $50 (includes all supplies)
Explore a world of color and creativity with polymer clay. It's not only fun to play with, but good exercise and therapy for your hands. All ages love to play with clay and the possibilities are endless with all the colors you can choose from! During this course, you'll learn: how to roll, soften and condition clay, how to mix colors to make new colors and for cool effects, how to cut, sculpt and mold clay, how to bake and finish your creations, and how to stamp on clay. The projects you'll be creating include: making your own beads, small clay sculptures, art pieces with texture, dimension and stamping, and millefiori clay (patterns inside clay and is then cut to reveal the pattern).
Cost per student: $55 (small supply list sent upon registration)
Mixed-media art is a wonderfully freeing way to creatively express yourself. The only rule with mixed-media art is that there are no rules. This is and art form that all ages can connect with due to its creative liberty. This class will teach you different mixed-media techniques that are really easy to master but that create stunning effects. You'll learn: painting and color blending techniques, collage basic, texture effects, basic mixed-media rubber stamping, how to use found objects, objects from nature and household items in your art, and art finishing and sealing techniques.
Fairy Houses & Castles (ages 6 and up) - limit of 8 students in class
August 8-12 (Monday - Friday) 10 am - 12:30 pm
Cost per student: $50 (small supply list sent upon registration)
Get ready for a full day of whimsy and fantasy. We’ll be creating amazing, one-of-a-kind, out-of-your-imagination Fantasy Castles and Fairy Houses. We’ll be exploring the grounds along Hawkins Road to find inspiration and materials to create inviting and magical Fantasy Castles and Houses that will attract knights, fairies, princesses, etc. Your imagination will be stretched and you’ll see the nature around you in a completely different way as we see and pick up the little details around us and incorporate them into your Fantasy Castle & Houses. It’s a great way to appreciate the world around us and the creation that is just waiting to be discovered and put to use. We’ll use twigs, leaves, pinecones, pebbles, feathers….anything we can find to build our houses. We’ll also be using plaster to mold and build.
August 13 (Saturday) 10 am - 3 pm, lunch included
Cost per student: $45 (supply list sent upon registration)
Homemade soaps & natural health & beauty items have an earthy, old world, laid-back charm. Making soap & health & beauty care products in generations past was a hard task that could take hours and days to complete. Today, there are new techniques and recipes that require less work, but yield the same charming results. During this course, you'll learn how to make "cold process" soap (with a fantastic QUICK recipe) as well as "melt & pour" soaps. You will learn how to make soap balls, natural facial scrubs, lip balms, bath salts, herbal rinses and more.
This is a great class for adults and kids to take together and if you would like to register as an adult/child team to help each other and work together, please register as only one student and indicate in the special instructions (when checking out) that you'll be a team.
