I've discovered a new love....making banners! And not just any banners, but banners that can go outside, too! (UPDATE: I'm now offering blank banner triangles for sale so that you can make your own! See below!)
Last month, I made a large banner to stretch across the front of our deck. I created my own banners using a multi-purpose cloth and sew a sleeve onto each of them to run a piece of twine through. I painted them with acrylic paints, added some decorative touches, strung them together and hung them up.
After I did that banner, I wanted to make one for my daughter (contrary to popular belief, her name really isn't Girly *wink*)but a little smaller and with a bit more detail on them. I LOVE how it turned out! She's pretty excited, too!
I made the smaller banners at half the size that I made the banners that go across my front deck (see picture at the end of this post). This size would also be great to use in between the larger banners for extra details like 3-D flowers, stamped images, etc.
These banners are SO easy to customize! You can paint on them, stamp on them, sew beads on them, spray them with a sealer, glue things on them, doodle on them and SO MUCH MORE!
I painted my banners with acrylic paint and then used a sponge brush to sponge cream colored paint onto the flourish image from the Elements of Style set and created a beautiful background on each of them. When the paint had dried, I used a black Sharpie marker to create the dash lines around the edge of each banner.
I cut out some butterflies using the Beautiful Butterflies die and Big Shot machine from some of the scraps from my banners and painted those, as well. I stamped on top of them with the same flourish image but sponged them with black paint. I used hot glue in the center of the butterflies to adhere them to the banners. I then strung some small glass seed beads for the butterfly center and antennas. I kept the wings loose on the banner so that they weren't completely flat against the banner. I added my daughter's name by using an alphabet set sponged with black paint.
I painted and stamped some smaller butterflies and used a 1/8" hole punch to create holes to string them in between each of the triangles.
I used a darning needle with a length of twine to string all the banners up and that was it!! (The sleeve on the banner triangles are the perfect size for stringing with 1/4" grosgrain ribbon.)
So easy, so fun and customized!
UPDATE: I've gotten quite a few emails asking if I offer the banner triangles for sale. YES!! I have a bunch already sew up and more in the works. If you'd like to do a bulk order, please contact me for discount information.

These banner triangles are made with a heavy-weight and sturdy multi-purpose smooth cloth. The cloth easily takes paints, glue, rub-ons, sewing (hand or machine) and can be hole-punched. Great for different artists mediums. No fraying and can be strung outside as well as indoors. Doesn't require gesso or primer, doesn't curl, holds its shape. These are made in my smoke-free home.
The sleeve on the banner triangles are the perfect size for stringing with 1/4" grosgrain ribbon. If you'd like a wider width of sleeve, please specify the width you'd like in your order, keeping in mind that your banner triangles will be a tad shorter and a tad wider to account for the wider sleeve.
Here's the banner I made for our garden. I used the Large Banner Triangles for this.

I like this idea of large banner triangle. It looks beautiful. It seems very creative.I like that butterfly name very much as butterflies are pretty.Banner is colorful.
