I love to read and when I was younger, I had a massive bookmark collection. I'm not sure where they all ended up. Over the years, I wore many of them out and I'm sure some got misplaced during all the moves we've made. I used to make some of my own by coloring, adding stickers and creating collages on cardstock and then covering them with contact paper. I would make them for myself and also for gifts for friends. It's been a while since I've made myself a bookmark and I thought it was high time for a new one.
I enjoy working with felt, I adore stamping and my favorite hot drink is chai. It's like liquid love, so it was quite appropriate to have a heart on the mug. I also love to have a hot mug of chai (or hot chocolate) when I'm reading a book or magazine.
I used my dye based markers to color directly on the mug stamp from Nina Brackett's Heartily Yours set. I used Creamy Caramel for the mug, Chocolate Chip for the saucer and handle and Real Red for the steam. I also ran the Real Red marker around the inside of the heart so that it just touched the edges to get the color on it. I stamped this on Base Weight Pure Luxury white cardstock (which makes the punch out really sturdy) and then punched it out with a scalloped circle punch. I added a hint of glitter on the inside of the heart.
I cut out two felt flowers using a die cutting machine and hand cut the brown felt for the bottom of the bookmark. I used embroidery floss to stitch the pieces together, as well as sew on some buttons from the new Romance Button assortment. I used a high-temp hot glue gun to glue the cardstock mug image in the center of the flower.
That's it! The hand stitching goes really quick with simple stitches. Now I'm totally wanting to make more to rebuild that bookmark collection that disappeared years ago!
My daughter also made a card with Nina's Heartily Yours set and we loaded it on her blog: Creative Girly. I know she would love some comment love. :)
