Before I get started on this card, I wanted to say THANK YOU to all of you that have sent postcards and packages for Zach's Travel the World project! You can click here -----> (SunshineMama blog) to see some of the collection that he has going on. Also, thank you for the donations on his autism badge on the side bar of this blog. I noticed the other day that it had jumped up with a 4th donation in the amount of $50! Thank you to those of you that have donated! It means the world to me!
Speaking of traveling the world..... I made a new long card. I really wanted to use one of the new sets that I got with my incentive points.....and I've been wanting to use this really great patterned paper from the Sentimental Journey Designer Series paper pack. (Click on the card to get a full view)
I used Buckaroo Blue for the card base. The folded card measures 4 x 8 1/2 inches and will fit into a regular business size envelope. I held the card down on a piece of scrap paper and rubbed my Creamy Caramel ink pad along the edges and corners (going pretty heavy over the corners to pick up more color). I cut a piece of Creamy Caramel cardstock and swiped my Creamy Caramel ink over the edges. I cut a piece of the patterned paper with the travel stickers all over it from the Sentimental Journey pack and distressed the edges using the distressing tool from the Cutter Kit (OH MY GOODNESS....what did I ever DO without this little tool of goodness???). I adhered the patterned paper on the Creamy Caramel cardstock.
I really wanted to add some Twill Tape to this project, but I didn't have any of the thin width left over, only the largest width that comes in the package from Stampin' UP. But I really, really, REALLY wanted twill tape on there and I was bound and determined to make it work. I decided to cut into the twill tape and I LOVE how this turned out! This is exactly one fourth of the width of the large twill tape....it's easy to cut, as there's a pattern change on the large twill tape that sections it off in four places. :)
I held down the twill tape on my Creamy Caramel ink pad and ran it under my fingers a few times to pick up the caramel ink on the tape. As I did this, some of the edges of my tape frayed and I started to freak out about it, then realized that it just added to the look I was going for. It actually reminded me of the look of the distressed edges of my paper. It was PERFECT!
I tacked down the twill tape to my patterned paper using SNAIL Adhesive and tucked the ends underneath. Then I took my piercing tool and mat from my Crafter's Tool Kit and pierced holes through the twill tape and the layers of paper and cardstock. I then put Antique Brass brads (from the Antique Brass HodgePodge Hardware Kit) in the holes, then mounted this all on my card.
I stamped the Bon Voyage stamp from the World Tour set (this is my newest favorite set.....I am in love with this set.....and the paper that goes along with it.....it suits my personality so well) with Buckaroo Blue ink on Very Vanilla cardstock. I then ran my Creamy Caramel ink over the image to make it look aged. I cut a piece of Buckaroo Blue cardstock, then a bigger piece of Creamy Caramel cardstock and swiped them both with Creamy Caramel ink and distressed the edges. I layered everything together with the Bon Voyage image on top. The last layer I did was a piece of Cranberry Crisp, which I swiped with the same color ink. That became the bottom layer. Everything then got mounted on top of the main card.
Now I wish I were going some place really soon so that I could send myself this card! HA!
