If you've ever wanted to get yourself out of a creative rut, I HIGHLY recommend that you take up the art of altered books. It's a sure-fire way to get your creative juices flowing.
One of the things that I love about altered art is that the one and only rule is: THERE ARE NO RULES! As a very independent and determined person, I like the fact that I can do something in which there are no boundaries. My creativity is the limit......and when I open myself up to that fact, I know that anything can be possible if I only let it be.
This book is one that I created with a humorous twist on the relationship that my husband and I share. I had such fun creating this book. I found myself smiling and chuckling to myself as I painted and cut out letters from magazines and watched the book come together.
Altered books allow me to do anything I want. I'm not restricted to stamping in a certain place. I don't have to feel bad about getting paint in the "wrong" place. I don't have to feel bad that I'm cutting a huge hole in the last half of a book. I can do absolutely anything and everything I want to it. Even better, I can let the book lead ME and lose myself in the creative process......which I find very liberating.

If you've never dabbled in altered art before, but can't quite commit yourself to altering a book, why not start with a blank journal and start from there. And if you want a quick overview on how to get started, go here: Creating Altered Books - Get started
